Female Victim Knifed in Birmingham City Bus Stop Attack Succumbs to Injuries

A woman stabbed repeatedly to her neck area during a random assault near a bus shelter in Birmingham has passed away, authorities verified.

The victim, who was 34, came under attack in Smallbrook Queensway, right beside the Bullring shopping centre, shortly before 21:00 GMT Friday evening, according to police statements.

Djeison Rafael, 21, was presented at Birmingham Magistrates Court Monday morning, facing charges for the attack.

He was previously accused with attempted murder however after the woman's death charges were upgraded to murder.

Law Enforcement Actions

The force said police personnel will remain in the downtown area through Monday to offer reassurance, while detectives assisted the woman's family.

Detectives are appealing for witnesses who may have seen the accused, who is described as a Black British national, and is believed to have been wearing an all-grey tracksuit, dark headwear, athletic shoes with a backpack.

The knife attack occurred outside the Bullring shopping centre, opposite the main entrance to Birmingham New Street station.

Law enforcement confirmed they classified it as "unprovoked attack" with investigators stating they were working to understand the motive behind.

Eyewitness Reports

Shalini Doal, employed in the vicinity, recounted paramedic and police activity after completing her work period at about 22:00 Friday night.

She characterized the location as "quite chaotic", and said co-workers reported hearing a commotion at about 21:00.

"A lot of co-workers take public transport, ride the tramline... our safety is at risk fundamentally, here in the city centre."

Ashley Birks, twenty-five, from Stoke-on-Trent, said he came to Birmingham quite frequently visiting his partner who lives in the city, expressing concern regarding the incident.

"It makes me worried for my girlfriend," he said.

"She lacks transportation employed at all of the big music venues... considering something completely unprovoked [happened], understandably, it's horrible."
