Doris Included in Irish Team But McCarthy Omitted
Newly reappointed manager the Ireland coach has selected captain Caelan Doris in his Ireland team for the fall matches, however Joe McCarthy is absent.
Doris, absent from play since having shoulder surgery in the start of May, recently returned to Leinster training, though his fitness is uncertain if he will be fit to play against the All Blacks in the US on 1 November.
Second row McCarthy, on the other hand, did not make the cut after not recovering from the foot issue he sustained during the opening British and Irish Lions match against the Wallabies in July.
Northern province player Cormac Izuchukwu and Munster winger Calvin Nash are also absent due to injury, while number 15 Keenan had already been ruled out after undergoing a hip operation after the Lions tour.
Dublin province forward Paddy McCarthy - Joe's younger brother - is the sole new player in the 34-player squad, however Irish rugby authorities states uncapped Munster pair Edogbo and Brian Gleeson and previously capped western province wing Bolton will travel to the US as "reserves".
Following facing the All Blacks at Soldier Field in a repeat of their 2016 meeting, the team will play the Brave Blossoms, Australia and world champions South Africa in the Irish capital.
"There's an exciting look to the panel and it's a chance for the veteran players and for those who made their debuts on the summer tour to Georgia and the Lobos," said the coach, who returns to national team duties after taking a sabbatical to coach the British and Irish Lions to Australia.
In a largely experienced selection, Leinster's Prendergast and the southern club's Crowley will again compete for the starting number 10 spot. The fly-half role is still available, as Prendergast and Crowley set to play against each other for the first occasion in Saturday's United Rugby Championship match at the Dublin venue.
Ciaran Frawley is the additional number 10 selected with the coach deciding not to calling up the province's Harry Byrne.
At scrum-half, Farrell has selected Lions tourist Jamison Gibson-Park and Casey, who led the national side to the summer Test victories over Georgia and Portugal. Additionally, there is a return for the western province's Blade, who is preferred to club-mate Ben Murphy.
Henshaw, Aki, Ringrose and McCloskey form an experienced cohort of centre choices. Jamie Osborne is another option in the midfield, though the 23-year-old is also a frontrunner to deputise for the full-back at full-back.
Wingers James Lowe, Hansen, Tommy O'Brien and Stockdale are named. The winger impressed on his first Ireland outings over the summer with a brace each in the wins over the Lelos and Portugal.
Paddy McCarthy is the sole new name in the Irish pack. The loose-head prop has been in a couple of his province's three United Rugby Championship games this season and featured in Ireland A's loss by the English in the English city previously.
The 22-year-old was selected in caretaker coach O'Connell's summer selection, yet did not earn a international appearance.
Southern province lock Thomas Ahern, who received his debut appearances in those Tests, is retained, while experienced Ulster second row Henderson is back after sitting out the summer tour.
Jack Conan, who started all three Lions Tests during the tour, is set to deputise for the captain should the captain fails to recover full fitness soon enough to face the All Blacks.
The Ireland squad will assemble in the capital on the start of the week before traveling to the US on Tuesday.
